I. PURPOSE
To provide for the safety
of personnel while performing duties within hazardous environments and
define acceptable appearance guidelines while wearing a uniform and representing
the department.
II. SCOPE
Any individual who participates
in any non-emergent or emergent activities representing Browndale Fire
Company.
III. RESPONSIBILTY
All Station 43 personnel
are responsible to adhere to the procedures established within this guideline.
IV. PROCEDURES
The dress uniform or Class
A uniform will be worn for special functions only at the direction of the
Fire Chief. These uniforms are not required but after 1 year of service
a member may purchase a Class A uniform that complies with department specifications.
The Class B/C uniform will
be the standard uniform for all personnel serving in a official capacity
as well as the standard for public relation events or as directed by the
Chief of the Department. The Class B polo uniform will also be worn
for funerals and other special details when the member does not have a
Class A uniform.
The Class C uniform is the
minimum uniform for out service trainings. We realize that this is
not always possible but every attempt should be made to wear clothing that
identifies you as a member of the Browndale Fire Company. The Class C uniform
is also urged for work details and other in-station activities.
The Class B uniform consists
of the following:
A polo shirt made from
cotton or poly/cotton, Nomex or other flame retardant materials are optional.
The following materials
apply to all Class B uniforms:
Trousers:
Uniform pants or
shorts will be navy blue cotton or poly/cotton, Nomex or other flame retardant
materials are optional. Pants will not be worn bloused.
Outer Garments:
Coats, jackets or “job”
shirts will be navy blue and have the 43 logo, patch or other station identifiable
marking subject to approval of the Fire Chief.
Footwear:
Members will wear black
shoes or boots made of leather or a similar material. Footwear will
be professional in appearance and will be able to be polished if necessary.
If low top shoes are worn, black or navy blue socks will be worn.
Headwear:
Baseball type caps with
any Station 43 logo may be worn at any time. During cold weather,
members may wear dark colored knit hats . Any other type of design or markings
must be approved by the Fire Chief. Any other type of headwear must
be approved by the Fire Chief.
The Class C Uniform consists
of the following:
The Class C Uniform will
be short or long sleeve T-shirts, “job” shirts, sweat shirts or
“hoodies” as approved or designed by the department along with above noted
trousers, footwear and headwear.
VI. SUPERSEDED GUIDELINES
This is a new operating
guideline. It does not replace any previous document on this subject matter.
This policy was reviseded
on July 3, 2010. The addition of "shorts" was added to the Class
B section on trousers. The remainder of this SOG is unchanged.
